Comedy: Shane Mauss Stand-Up on ‘Conan’

3 May

Comedian Shane Mauss went on Conan to do a 5-minute set and it was hilarious. Mauss talks about why he loves Mexican immigration (which makes him alright with us), why homophobes should be more upset with lesbians, and what he thinks about the government having anything to do with what he does in his bedroom.

Vampire Weekend – Ya Hey (Official Lyrics Video)

3 May

Vampire Weekend have released another track from their forthcoming new album, Modern Vampires Of The City. The new track “Ya Hey” only gets the lyric video treatment but at least you see some alright champagne shower footage in the background (just go with it). “Ya Hey” is set to a slower tempo but it also sports the sort of quality that makes it an excellent sing-along song at live shows. The lyrics basically tell you “no one loves, why love anything?” but you still find a way to look past it, and you can’t help be empathize and be part of that act.

Koenig paints the story perfectly in the piano-heavy bridge and rather than have me describe that for ya, check it out above and enjoy it for yourself.

Download: Ian Rubbish and the Bizzaros

Ian Rubbish and the Bizzaros album cover

Earlier this month on the Vince Vaughn-hosted episode of SNL appeared a mockumentary clip for “History of Punk” where they give a look at a Sex Pistols-like fictitious Punk band fronted by Fred Armisen. Ian Rubbish and the Bizzaros, like the Pistols, had a problem with British authority (like the police and the Queen) but the comical twist here was that on top of all of that, Ian Rubbish (played by Armisen) somehow was actually a fan of the infamous “Iron Lady,” the late Margaret Thatcher. The clip tells the story of Rubbish’s fall from grace thanks to his devotion to Thatcher and making music about her, which is basically the opposite of Punk.

The former British Prime Minister passed away this month and SNL played this little tribute to her, which was a whole lot better than how Britain made “Ding Dong! the Witch is Dead” a hit after learning of her death.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Will Headline Q87.7’s PIQNIQ Festival

29 Apr

As if there weren’t enough reasons around that make summer in Chicago awesome, our local Alternative Rock (is that still technically the term/genre?) radio station Q87.7, has announced the launch of its first PIQNIQ festival. The new festival will take place at First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre on June 29.

What may be the most important part about this announcement is that the fest’s headliners will be the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, who are making their only appearance in Chicago(land). Some of the other bands that will be heading over to Tinley are Bush, AWOLNATION, Silversun Pickups, Cold War Kids, and Atlas Genius among others.
